Jerrold H. Weinberg, MD, FACOG, NCMP

Bio

As is often the case, Jerrold Weinberg was inspired to pursue a given profession by a teacher, in this case by his high school biology teacher. He then attended Wayne State University, majoring in zoology with an eye to becoming a physician. In medical school, also at Wayne State University, he came to the realization that he wanted to provide long-term care for patients, but he also loved being in the operating room. While rotating through obstetrics and gynecology at Sinai Hospital of Detroit,he encountered his future lifelong mentor, Dr. Alfred Sherman, who happened to be the new Chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department there, and everything came together for him. After graduation from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Weinberg did a rotating internship and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Sinai Hospital of Detroit, which has since become part of the Detroit Medical Center. He then became an attending physician there for his entire career, twice being presented the award of Attending Physician of the Year in his department.

While in private practice, Dr. Weinberg expanded his credentials, becoming certified in microsurgery, colposcopy, laser surgery, uterine ablation and quality assurance, eventually becoming chairperson of the hospital-wide Quality Assurance Coordinating Committee

Dr. Weinberg wrote an editorial column for the Ob/Gyn News for several years titled, “From The Front Lines.” In 1999, Dr. Weinberg developed a special interest in the care and treatment of women going through menopause using bioidentical hormones, and joined the North American Menopause Society and became credentialed as a Certified Menopausal Clinician. His main focus since then has been caring for menopausal women and mentoring nurse practitioner students in women’s health and menopause.

Dr. Weinberg also has an abiding passion in biomedical ethics, and has lectured and taught courses on various aspects of medical decision-making in his community.
